Who is Smāramundo?

 

Smāramundo is a feeling, an atmosphere, a principle, a movement and a community. Smāra is the Sanskrit word for love/longing/ memory and Mundo is the Latin word for World. Coming from Goa in India where our culture is Konkani(root:Sanskrit) and Portuguese(root:Latin), SmāraMundo is the perfect conjunction of languages to describe what we seek to provide: a catchment for the lost artisanal traditions of the world, a revival of these into valuable, timeless new pieces that make your house a home.

 

MISSION

Contemporary furniture and home accessories today are made too quickly, too cheaply, often using sweatshop workers, in mass factories that spew carbon and pollutants, driving our beloved planet to destruction .

They have no unique story to tell.

Smāramundo wants to fight the good fight. Smāramundo is small scale. We make contemporary Designer Homeware that incorporates traditional, indigenous, heritage crafts from all over the world, in fair trade with indigenous Craftspeople to create pieces for your home that are almost unique.

We are a social enterprise and work towards making artisans into profit partners.

A world with a real heritage: indigenous arts and crafts from all over the world are revived, made relevant, and incorporated into contemporary furniture and decor. Artisanal guilds thrive again, foregrounding carbon sensitive, climate friendly processes of home building once again.
